Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

□ Completes duties related to street maintenance, including snow plowing, salting, cleaning, patching, repairing, sweeping, etc. 
□ Cleans curbs, catch basins, and culverts, as necessary. 
□ Mows grass and removes weeds in Village right of ways, parks, etc.; trims trees, chips branches, and picks up litter and trash. 
□ Performs repairs and replacements, repairs culverts, storm sewers, gutters, and other drainage facilities. 
□ Performs tree planting, pruning, and/or removal in Village parkways. Plants new trees, mulches, and prunes, as necessary. 
□ Performs set-up, break-down, and clean-up for Village festivals and events, and cleans up same after the festival. 
□ Performs sign installation and repair of street signs, pavement markings, and striping. 
□ Performs brush collection, via truck or manually. 
□ Installs and removes holiday decorations on the ground, in trees, on lights poles, etc. 
□ Paints/repairs buildings and/or structures; assists with minor repairs to the same. 
□ Cleans vehicles and/or equipment, as necessary. 
□ Understands the importance of teamwork and cooperation in the workplace and demonstrates such understanding in interactions with other Village employees at all organizational levels. 
□ Assumes personal responsibility for providing exceptional customer service, professionally responds to citizen complaints and requests, and recognizes their role as a public relations steward of the Village by promoting and maintaining responsive and professional community relations. 
□ Follows all safety rules and regulations established by law, ordinance, or standard operating procedures to ensure safe and efficient work practices are being performed at all times and wears all required personal protection equipment. 
□ Assists in the performance of water, sewer, and wastewater related duties as needed, and performs all other duties as assigned or necessary to ensure the overall effectiveness of the Village as a whole.

Position Qualifications: 

A. Possession of a valid Illinois driver’s license; 
B. CDL B preferred; 
C. High school diploma or equivalent; 
D. Vocational training or two years of related work experience preferred; 
E. Any equivalent combination of education, experience, or training that shows possession of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: 

   1) Knowledge of general maintenance and street maintenance operations; 
   2) Mechanical knowledge necessary to operate tools and equipment used in the Public Works Department; 
   3) Ability to conduct work assignments or instructions without immediate supervision; 
   4) Ability to respond to emergency call-outs on a 24-hour, 7-day basis; fulfill assigned call duty established on a rotating basis for emergency work which occurs after normal working hours, including weekends; 
   5) Ability to perform a variety of physical assignments, from simple to complex, occasionally moving heavy objects, such as manhole covers, pumps, gravel, snow, etc.; 
   6) Ability to complete written paperwork and reports; 
   7) Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; 
   8) Ability to establish successful working relationships with other employees in order to work as a cohesive team member as part of a larger crew; 
   9) Ability to respond to and interact with residents, co-workers, and others both within and outside of the organization in a courteous and professional manner. 

Physical Demands of the Position: 

The physical demands described in this position description must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The incumbent of this position must be able to stand, sit, walk, run, and drive a car, truck, and other motorized vehicles; must be able to push, pull, reach, grasp, and lift objects up to 50 pounds on a frequent and continuous basis; must be able to bend, stoop, climb stairs, climb ladders, and work at heights. The incumbent of this position must be able to use their hands to operate tools, equipment, and other controls necessary to complete repairs and/or installations; or to remove, replace or install heavy objects or equipment, and dig with shovels. 

Work Environment: 

Work is performed primarily in an environment that is subject to weather conditions up to 100% of the time. The incumbent is subject to wet, cold, and/or humid weather conditions, snow and rainstorms, flood conditions, and daytime and nighttime work. The incumbent of this position is subject to emergency call-outs and must report within 60 minutes.
